In reply to media questions on 4 April 2008 regarding the controversy over the movie “Fitna” produced by Mr. Geert Wilders, a Member of Parliament of the Netherlands, Mr. Tharit Charungvat, Foreign Ministry Spokesman, responded as follows:
Thailand adheres to a clear principle, as enshrined in the Constitution, of respecting all religions. While Thailand respects the freedom for individual expression, such expression must also refrain from infringing on the legitimate rights and beliefs of others. As such, Thailand disapproves of any attempt to intentionally insult any religion or deeply held and respected beliefs and any attempt to stir up hate, discord and division among people, including the further dissemination of such messages.
