Bangkok--Apr 9--MFA
1 October 2008 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Republic of Korea. Both sides plan to hold a number of events and activities throughout this year to celebrate this auspicious occasion, as well as to strengthen the foundations for closer cooperation in the years to come.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea have jointly selected an official logo for this celebration. The logo is composed of a gold number “5” in the Thai style, representing prosperity, while the number “0” uses the “Dynamic Korea” logo. The theme of the celebrations is “50 Years’ Friendship for the Future.”
Thailand and the Republic of Korea have agreed to hold launching ceremonies and press conferences in their respective capitals on similar dates, i.e. at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Korea on 7 April 2008 and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand on 8 April 2008. Presiding over both events will be the Permanent Secretary or Vice Minister and Ambassadors of the respective countries.
Key events that the Thai side will organize in the Republic of Korea on 1 October 2008 include a joint concert involving artists from both Thailand and Korea, followed by a reception, a cultural performance and traditional wooden puppet show, commemorative postage stamps, a seminar on trade and investment, the unveiling of a memorial to Thai soldiers who lost their lives during the Korean War, and a visit to Korea by Korean War veterans from Thailand. In addition, a science camp will be held for Thai and Korean youths in Thailand.
In arranging the events and activities celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations throughout this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received excellent cooperation from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the private sector and educational institutions. The calendar of events is attached herewith.
