On 11 April 2008, Mr. Noppadon Pattama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, presided over the Closing Ceremony of a Training Course on “Capacity Building and Career Preparation for Thai Muslim University Students from the Southern Provinces of Thailand,” and presented certificate of honour to the representative of the entrepreneurs who kindly contributed to the Programme. On this occasion, the Foreign Minister also delivered closing remarks to the Thai Muslim students, who had earlier received the certificates of course completion from Mr. Pensak Chalarak, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated and sponsored the said training course which was organized by College of Islamic Studies, Prince Songkla University from 3 March to 7 April 2008. Comprising 150 students from the Three Southern Provinces, namely Pattani, Naradhiwas, and Yala, as well as from three districts in Songkla Province, the programme participants had experienced the various training courses and lectures at Prince Songkla University, Pattani Campus, and joined a field trip to Bangkok.
The Training Course included classes on speaking, listening and writing in Arabic as well as training on management, leadership, organizational behaviors, multicultural understanding and comparative cultures. The curriculum aimed at building capacity and broadening career options for the students from the Southern Provinces. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expected the training course to provide the participants with greater understanding about the Government’s policies aimed at promoting development and opportunities to the Thai Muslims in the South.
