On 7 May 2008, Mr. Anthon Thalmann, Deputy State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, accompanied by Mr. Thomas Greminger, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Thailand, called on Mr. Charivat Santaputra, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, to discuss ways and means to strengthen the relations between the two countries.
On this occasion, both sides signed the Joint Statement on Promoting a Closer Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, which would serve as a mechanism where the senior officials of the two countries would meet regularly to coordinate on setting long-term strategies to strengthen close ties at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels. The forum would also provide opportunities for senior officials of both countries to discuss issues of mutual interest.
