Mr. Pithaya Pookaman, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the capacity of the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, will lead a Thai delegation to attend the 35th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM 35) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Kampala, the Republic of Uganda, during 18-20 June 2008.
This participation in the CFM 35 will help enhance Thailand’s relations and cooperation with the OIC and its member countries. In addition, the conference will provide an opportunity for Thailand to update the Islamic countries on the situation in the Southern Border Provinces and progress being made by the Royal Thai Government in resolving the situation through the reconciliatory and peaceful approach based on His Majesty the King’s guiding principles of “understand, reach out and develop.”
Thailand has been an Observer State in the OIC since 1998. Over the years, the OIC member states have expressed their understanding of the situation in the Southern Border Provinces and extended continued support to Thailand in the OIC fora.
