On the Occasion of the Official Visit to the Kingdom of Thailand
of His Highness
Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

Upon the kind invitation of the Royal Thai Government, and within the framework of friendship and cooperation between the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Thailand, and the desire to develop and promote these relations, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, accompanied by a high-level delegation, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand from 8-14 August 2008.
His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was received by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand in a royal audience. His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait met with His Excellency Mr. Chai Chidchob, President of the National Assembly and His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand.
The Kingdom of Thailand attaches great importance to the official visit of His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait, emphasizing that it represented a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, formal discussions between Kuwait and Thailand chaired by the two countries’ Prime Ministers were held at the Government House. The two sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations between both countries and expressed their satisfaction with the development of the bilateral relations, especially in economic and investment areas.
The two sides also welcomed the signing of Agreement on Economic and Technical Co-operation between Thailand and Kuwait and the Memorandum of Understanding on Conducting Bilateral Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
Thailand expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s increasingly significant role as global investor while Kuwait expressed its interest to boost investment in Asia. In this regard, the two sides agreed to open new horizon for bilateral cooperation that would increase investments and promote commercial exchange between the two countries.
Kuwait also presented its vision concerning the acceleration of the development process in light of economic dynamism witnessed in the region, which presents an opportunity for Kuwait to work and participate in developmental activities. The Kuwaiti side affirmed that Kuwait has developed rules and regulations that would give advantages to foreign investment, and amend the existing taxation laws to a status that would greatly assist the participation of foreign investor.
The two sides shared the view that the stability of the world oil market is a cornerstone for the growth of world economy. In this regard, Thailand took note of significant role of Kuwait to secure continued oil supplies. The two sides also agreed on the importance of cooperation in the development of gas and oil sectors to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
The two sides expressed concern over the food crisis and its impact on the global economy and well-beings of the people around the world and addressed ways to cope with the crisis. The Kuwaiti side expressed appreciation for Thailand’s role as a major food producer and exporter, while the Thai side affirmed its readiness to support Kuwait in food security.
The Thai side expressed its appreciation for educational cooperation between the two countries, especially the granting of scholarships to Thai Muslim students. The two sides recognized the importance of cooperation in this field as it could serve as a vehicle to promote people-to-people contact through youths of the two countries.
The two sides noted that the number of the Kuwaitis visiting Thailand for medical tourism has been on an annual increase and the Kuwaiti side appreciated Thailand’s role as one of the medical hubs in Asia. In this regard, the Thai side expressed its desire to start negotiations for an agreement on health cooperation between the two countries.
The Thai side expressed its appreciation for the Kuwaiti Government for taking good care of Thai workers in Kuwait. The two sides addressed the importance of starting negotiations for an agreement on worker recruitment.
On the ASEAN-GCC relations, the two sides shared common view to strengthen cooperation between the two regional bodies. The Thai side expressed its determination to convene the full-fledged ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok in 2009. The Kuwaiti side affirmed its support for the Meeting.
Within the context of discussing international political issues, the two sides shared the views concerning the current situation; they also agreed to strengthen cooperation between them in the U.N. and other international organizations, and to combat terrorism in all its forms and shapes.
The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the constructive spirit of cooperation that prevailed over their discussions, which reflected the close relations binding the two friendly nations, stressing at the same time the importance of exchanging of high-level visit between the two countries.
His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, conveyed formal invitations of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, to visit the State of Kuwait.
