Remarks by His Excellency Mr. Tej Bunnag, Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the Presentation of Contribution of 2 Million Baht to Minister for Health of the Union of Myanmar for the Improvement of Operating Theatre, Tachileik Hospital 23 August 2008

Your Excellency Professor U Kyaw Myint, Minister for Health of the Union of Myanmar,

Excellencies,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

  • A wise man once said, “If you have health, you probably will be happy, and if you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it is not all you want.”
  • For the past three years, the Royal Thai Government has undertaken several initiatives with the Government of the Union of Myanmar to improve the facilities and services of Tachileik Hospital. The aim is to enable the Hospital to provide efficient health care and services to the Myanmar people. This project is part of Thai-Myanmar cooperation in the area of health and part of our common efforts to foster closer relationship and goodwill between the peoples of our two countries.
  • Cooperation on health-related matters requires concerted effort on both sides of the border. So, I am happy to note that the medical personnel at Tachileik and Mae Sai District Hospitals have been working together closely. There are regular exchanges of information on the prevention of communicable diseases. Mae Sai District Hospital also provides a wide range of training courses for their Myanmar colleagues. This close collaboration reflects our strong determination to improve the living standard and public health care for our peoples.
  • As an immediate next door neighbour of Myanmar, Thailand is pleased to do its part to promote the well-being of peoples on both sides of the border. Today I am honoured to present a sum of two million baht for the improvement of the operating theatre at Tachileik Hospital. May this serve to foster the good health and well-being of the Myanmar people.
