Cuban Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister

On 14 October 2008, Mrs. Maria Luisa Fernandez Equilaz, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sompong Amornvivat to bid farewell upon her completion of assignment in the Kingdom.

Ambassador Maria described her four years in Bangkok as the ‘best diplomatic job’ in her career, which gives her a great deal of experiences. She praised good relations between the two countries, especially exchanges of cooperation in many areas. Thai students are given educational opportunity in Cuba whereas in Bangkok, Cuba has sent its coaches to train boxing and other sports to the Thai people. Cuba and Thailand also support each other in agriculture and fishery.

Foreign Minister Sompong appreciated Cuban Ambassador’s understanding of the current political situation in Thailand and wished Ambassador Maria the best upon her departure. Cuban Ambassador invited Mr.Sompong to visit Havana.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cuba.
