Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister presides over the meeting of sub-committee on substance of the 14th ASEAN Summit.

On 20 October 2008, Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presided over the meeting of sub-committee on substance of the 14th ASEAN Summit and other related meetings to be held in Bangkok this coming December at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This Meeting was a forum for the Thai authorities concerned to exchange their views regarding major issues, namely 1) realizing the commitments under the ASEAN Charter 2) expanding the cooperation on food and energy security 3) focusing on environment, climate change, and disaster management issues and 4) considering to promote financial stability of the region, that Thailand would push forward during the 14th ASEAN Summit. The said issues would be the basis in drafting the Chairman’s Note and Thai Prime Minister’s talking points as well.

In addition, the Meeting also discussed the drafted documents to be adopted during the ASEAN Summit that Thailand, as ASEAN Chair, would later propose to other ASEAN member countries for consideration during the Joint Consultative Meeting (JCM) between ASEAN SOM, SEOM, and DGs which would be held during 6-8 November 2008 in Pattaya, Chonburi.
