AIDE-MEMOIRE

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand presents its compliments to the Royal Embassy of Cambodia and has the honour to draw the latter’s attention to the fact that on 18 September 2008 seven fully-armed Cambodian troops were deployed at the Trimuk Pavilion (Sala Trimuk), near the tri-junction point where Thailand, Cambodia and Laos’ land boundaries meet.

As the aforesaid area is yet to be demarcated and still subject to tripartite negotiation among Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, the Ministry has the honour to express its concern over the unnecessary tension caused by such deployment of troops by Cambodia. The Ministry has further the honour to reiterate Thailand’s commitment to settling boundary issues with Cambodia peacefully and in accordance with international law under the existing framework of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), and therefore to request that Cambodia promptly withdraw its troops out of the Trimuk Pavilion area and refrain from further deploying troops in the area in order to preserve goodwill and trust between the two countries pending completion of boundary demarcation.
