On 24 December 2008, Mr. Snanchart Devahastin, Ambassador of Thailand to Ottowa, handed over cash in the amount of USD 10,000 to Ms.Evande Coye, Jamaican High Commissioner in Ottowa, to help Jamaica, which suffered from Hurricane Gustav during the months of August and September 2008. The High Commissioner expressed her appreciation to Thailand for the contribution. The hurricane caused 12 death and destruction to residential and agricultural areas as well as to various infrastructures including homes for disabled children.

In 2006, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had provided aides to Belize and Jamaica following the Hurricane Dean disaster and to Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Haiti following the Hurricane Feliz and Hurricane Noel disasters.
