Press conference on the presentation of the WIPO Global Leader Award to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej

On 14 January 2009, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will present the WIPO Global Leader Award to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Klai Kangwol Palace, Hua Hin.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a press conference on the matter at 13.45 hrs. on Tuesday, 13 January 2009 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The press conference will be presided over by Dr. Francis Gurry, Director-General of WIPO, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and Mrs. Puangrat Asavapisit, Director-General of the Intellectual Property Department, Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce. All interested members of the press are cordially invited to attend the said press conference at the time, date and venue indicated above.

The presentation of the WIPO Global Leader Award is a new initiative by WIPO to acknowledge the achievements of individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the promotion and protection of intellectual property. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the first recipient of the Award in recognition of His active role in promoting intellectual property and inventions for the further development and well-being of Thai rural communities, for which His Majesty now has over 20 patents registered in His name.
