On 9 January 2009, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya delivered opening remarks at an international conference on “Refreshing Thai — U.S. Relations” in Hua Hin, hosted by the Institute of Security and International Studies and the American Studies Programme, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.

In his remarks, Foreign Minister Kasit mentioned that this is the refreshing time for both Thailand and the U.S. because both countries, which have recently seen profound changes, would now have new and youthful leadership with strong international background. Recognizing the long history — 175 years — and significance of close and strong partnership between Thailand and the U.S., he said it is an important time for both countries to plot strategy together on how to move the bilateral relations forward for mutual benefits.

Foreign Minister Kasit also reiterated that the Royal Thai Government would conduct its foreign policy in a transparent manner with neither hidden agenda nor conflict of interests, and would listen to and work with the people for the benefit of the country and the Thai people.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit also met with representatives from the Petchaburi and Prachuapkhirikhan Offices of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, as well as local tourism-related associations to discuss the local tourism situation and how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could help further promote tourism for both provinces in the international market.
