The Department of ASEAN Affairs together with the Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand co-organized various ASEAN activities on Children’s Day on 10 January 2009 at the Government House.

One major event is the launch of two cartoon books that the Department has commissioned to produce, namely, “ASEAN Discovery” and “Let’s Get to Know ASEAN”. ASEAN Discovery tells the tale of “Blu”, an alien whose space ship crashed on earth and was found and saved by 10 kids, each representing ASEAN Member States. As the story progressed on, Blu eventually learned about ASEAN through his friends while he stayed at the imaginary ASEAN village. At the end of the story, Blu departed back to his own galaxy with better knowledge and understanding of ASEAN as well as wonderful memories of his new friends. In the story book, “Let’s Get to Know ASEAN, the readers will learn information about ASEAN through 55 questions and answers.

Other ASEAN activities during Children’s Day include ASEAN quiz game, ASEAN Traveler Game, photo-taking with cartoon characters from ASEAN Discovery. About 5000 children and parents attended the event.

The above-mentioned activities are part of Thailand’s projects to disseminate information about ASEAN in a friendly medium as a way to increase ASEAN Awareness among the youths and general public. As the chairman of ASEAN, Thailand will host the upcoming 14th ASEAN Summit in late February this year.
