On 15 January 2009, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered keynote address “Thailand’s Image in the World” in Post Forum 2009 under the theme “Rescuing the Thai Economy” at Centara Grand Hotel, Bangkok.

In his address, Foreign Minister Kasit began by using a metaphor of Thai food in describing the present image of Thailand in the world. The famous Thai food with its great look and delectable taste has been excelled from the quality of its raw ingredients, and more importantly the Chef, namely Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Similarly, now with the clear policy direction, honesty, transparency and the good teamwork of the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Abhisit, the image of Thailand in the world has a strong ground at home.

Foreign Minister Kasit then mentioned his work in projecting the country’s good image out to the world which he had already set out to do in every occasion. In meetings with the foreign Ambassadors and representatives of the international organisations at home and the visits to the foreign countries, he would tell the attractiveness of Thailand, with the Government’s determination to make the country a knowledge-based society and cradle of food and energy security. He also stressed that asserting Thailand’s image abroad needed to be done in parallel with public diplomacy in the country to keep the Thai people informed of their benefits and opportunities.
