Further to the recent meeting between the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and representatives of the countries affected by the issue of illegal migrants in the Andaman Sea held on 23 January 2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a delegation comprising representatives of the Embassies of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar to Ranong Province. The visit, which took place on 3-4 February 2009, was intended to allow Embassy representatives to gain a better understanding of the situation of illegal migration in Ranong Province. Among the activities included a visit to the immigration facilities at Ranong Province and Ranong Hospital where the recently arrived group of 78 illegal migrants are being looked after.
