Foreign Minister’s official visit to the Republic of Indonesia during 10-11 February 2009

Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia during 10-11 February 2009, which is a part of customary introductory trip of the new ASEAN Foreign Minister to other member countries of the organization.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Kasit is granted a courtesy call on the President and will hold a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia. He will also meet with the Indonesian Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister to further strengthen cooperation on fisheries between the two countries. Futhermore, the Thai Foreign Minister will be meeting with the leaders of two important Islamic organizations of Indonesia, namely Nadhlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, to enhance cooperation on education and exchange of religious leaders between Indonesia and Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces. The visit would also provide an opportunity for Foreign Minister Kasit to discuss issues of mutual interests such as the 14th ASEAN Summit and the Rohingyas. He would also take this opportunity to meet with the Thai community in Jakarta.

The visit would further enhance the warm and cordial bilateral relations between Thailand and Indonesia and would pave a way towards diversifying areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
