Prime Minister’s Official Visit to the Republic of Indonesia 20 - 21 February 2009

During 20 - 21 February 2009, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister of Thailand, is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia. He will pay a courtesy call on the President and meet with the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. Prime Minister Abhisit will also deliver a speech at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. Apart from providing the opportunity to build rapport with Indonesian leaders as well as to discuss progress in bilateral relations, Prime Minister Abhisit will take this opportunity to meet Team Thailand and the Thai community in Indonesia, which comprises mostly Thai private sector and students.

In order to strengthen bilateral relations based on mutual benefits between the two countries, issues to be discussed will include the Southern Border Provinces of Thailand, cooperation with the Indonesian Islamic organizations on education, and economic issues such as fishery, energy, and trade. The visit would also provide an opportunity for the Thai Prime Minister to discuss with the Indonesian leaders international issues of mutual interest and concern such as the upcoming 14th ASEAN Summit, IMT-GT, global economic crisis and G-20 meeting.

The visit would further enhance the warm and cordial bilateral relations between Thailand and Indonesia and would pave a way towards diversifying areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
