On 9 March 2009, Mr. Quinton Mark Quayle, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Thailand, met with Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Thailand at the Foreign Ministry , to discuss various issues.

Ambassador Quayle congratulated Foreign Minister Kasit on the successful hosting of the 14th ASEAN Summit by the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand. He also complimented on the development of ASEAN as a regional grouping in dealing with regional and global issues.

Foreign Minister Kasit and Ambassador Quayle consulted on the Thai Prime Minister’s visit to England during 12-14 March 2009. Prime Minister Abhisit, in his capacity as Chairman of ASEAN, is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who currently heads the G-20 grouping, to discuss bilateral issues such as people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, research and development cooperation and investment opportunity. The Thai Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with British private sector and the Thai community as well as Thai students from the London School of Economics (LSE).

Following the meeting, Foreign Minister Kasit responded to the question from the media concerning the issue of Mr. Giles Ungpakorn that he had voiced his concern over the use of England as a platform by Mr. Giles to launch an attack on the Thai governing system. This was unacceptable to the Royal Thai Government, however, it remains under the jurisdiction of the British Government.
