Executive Secretary of the ESCAP paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 11 March 2009, Ms. Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the courtesy call, both sides had a discussion on activities to commemorate the occasion of 60th Anniversary of ESCAP in Thailand and activities to promote Thailand’s role in sustainable development which will be conducted during the 65th Commission Session of ESCAP in Bangkok, during 23-29 April 2009.

They also discussed the ASEAN-UN cooperation and the preparation of the ASEAN-UN Summit, to be held in April 2009. Furthermore, they exchanged views on the role of the United Nations in response to the current financial crisis as well as the role of ESCAP on the regional challenges, especially in narrowing the development disparity.
