Thai military and civil society contribute to world peace, says Foreign Minister

On 12 March 2009, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered opening remarks for the seminar “Policy and Direction of Thailand’s Peace-keeping Operation” at the Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Minister Kasit stated that Thailand, as a donor country and member of the United Nations, has played an important role in assisting other UN countries members including being part of peace-keeping forces to East Timor, Darfur and Afghanistan. The Kingdom has also extended humanitarian assistance to countries, for which the Thai military has worked closely with the civil society.

Operations of the Thai military abroad not only contribute to peace and stability of the world but also broaden their experiences. Additionally, the Kingdom is also benefited from economic and trading contact with the foreign countries.

The panelists in the seminar include prominence such as Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, and former Supreme Commander General Boonsrang Niumpradit. The Seminar was attended by both civilian and military representatives.
