Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister

On 20 March 2009, Mr. Majid Bizmark, Ambassador of the Islamic State of Iran to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During the call, both sides exchanged views on various issues which will help strengthening the long-standing ties between Thailand and Iran. On bilateral level, both sides discussed about the exchange of high-level delegations, judicial cooperation within the Joint Commission framework and the Joint Commission (JC) on Economic, Commercial, Industrial, Technical, Agricultural and Scientific Cooperation, which Thailand will host the upcoming 8th JC. Both sides also agreed that the agreement resulting from the JC will help increasing the trade volume between the two countries. On multilateral level, Iran has supported Thailand on various international fora, and expressed its wish to become the ASEAN’s Sectoral Dialogue Partner.

Both sides also agreed that the close and cordial people to people relations has contributed to the increasing number of tourists between the two countries, with over 80,000 Iranian visiting Thailand in 2008. In addition, the efforts to increase the number of direct flights between the two countries will be amicably consulted.
