Thai-Israel to push forward trade and investment cooperation

On 24 March 2009, a group of Israeli businessmen headed by Mr. Joseph Gillor, President of the Israeli-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Honorary Consul General of Thailand to Israel, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Charivat Santaputra, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, to discuss ways and means to strengthen cooperation on trade and investment between Thailand and Israel, at the Foreign Ministry.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary extended a warm welcome and stressed the importance of smooth relations between Thailand and Israel, which is a significant factor in supporting the trade and investment between the two countries. Both sides discussed various trade-related issues including investment opportunities in Thailand, business opportunities in Israel for Thai workers in agricultural sector and its labor-related law, success of Arava International Center for Agricultural Training (AICAT) program in Southern Israel.

On this occasion, both sides agreed to push forward and expand economic cooperation, especially in the field that Israeli has expertise, such as alternative energy and agricultural technology, in which Israeli businessmen had expressed their interests in investing in Thailand. For the mutual benefit of Thailand and Israel, both sides also agreed to settle the difficulties, especially on the labor issues, through the governmental channels.
