Foreign Minister Kasit pledges continued assistance to Bhutan

On 31 March 2009, Mr. Singye Dorjee, Ambassador of Bhutan bid farewell to Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, upon his completion of assignment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Foreign Ministry.

During their meeting, the foreign minister encouraged Bhutan to consider increasing its exports to the Kingdom and pledged Thailand’s continued assistance to Bhutan, particularly in developing its human resources. Ambassador Dorjee expressed appreciation of hospitality, close cooperation and support extended by the Thai side during his stay in Thailand. Foreign Minister Kasit wished Ambassador Dorjee the best upon his return to Bhutan. The meeting was followed by a farewell dinner hosted in honour of Ambassador Dorjee by Foreign Minister Kasit.

Thailand and Bhutan celebrated the 20th anniversary of their diplomatic relations last November. The Embassy of Bhutan in Bangkok is the only Bhutan Chancery in Southeast Asia and, notwithstanding its missions in New York and Geneva, one of the four Bhutanese embassies in the world. Currently, about one hundred Bhutanese students are studying in Thailand.
