Thailand supports CICA for SMEs Roadmap

On 24 April 2009, Mr. Dulat Bakishev, Executive Director of CICA (Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Panit Wikitset, Assistant to Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya. Director Dulat was in Bankok to participate in the 65th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

Mr. Dulat reported on the activities and development under the CICA framework such as the meeting between member countries and the proposal of a roadmap to promote investment and economic role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which Thailand stands ready to fully support as a coordinating country. The two sides also exchanged views on the way to strengthen ties between ASEAN and CICA. In this connection, Thailand, as the current Chair of ASEAN, stands ready to further cooperate with CICA for closer and constructive relations.

CICA was established in 1992 under Kazakhstan’s initiative. Its objective is to build up political and military confidence and trust among 20 member countries including major power such as Russia, China, and India. Thailand became a member of CICA since 2004.
