Russian Deputy Foreign Minister pays a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya

On 27 April 2009, Mr. Aleksey N. Borodavkin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Thailand from 23 to 28 April 2009 to attend the 65th Commission Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

Both sides reiterated the close and cordial bilateral relations between Thailand and Russia, particularly the increasing trade volume and number of tourists between the two countries. Both sides also expressed their wish to further cooperate in the areas of energy, technology, and military matters.

Regarding Russia’s rice debt, Foreign Minister Kasit informed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister that the Thai Foreign Ministry is submitting the matter to the Government for consideration. Thailand would keep Russia informed on any developments. Both sides agreed in principle to settle the issue within this year.
