Foreign Minister assures Thailand’s economic potential to Australian businessmen.

On 7 May 2009, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived in Perth, Australia for his three-day official visit to Australia to co-chair the inaugural Thailand-Australia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation upon the invitation of the Honourable Stephen Smith, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit met with the members of Australian business community at the roundtable luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia (CCI) in honour of his visit. His remarks focused on the government’s priority on economic policies and undertakings over the past four months and updates on political developments. Foreign Minister Kasit also assured the Australian businesses of Thailand’s economic potentials and made suggestions on areas of possible economic ventures between two countries, particularly on renewable energy, which both countries share mutual interest.

Later in the afternoon, Foreign Minister Kasit paid a visit to the Edith Cowan University of Perth (ECU) where he was received by Professor Kerry Cox, the Vice Chancellor of ECU. Foreign Minister Kasit addressed a group of students, Thais as well as international, on the history and development of Thai politics. In the evening, Foreign Minister Kasit met the members of the Thai community in Perth and gave an update on the current political situation as well as on current issues in Thailand.
