New Malaysian Ambassador pays courtesy call on Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs

On 14 May 2009, Dato’ Husni Zai bin Yaacob, Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Panich Vikitsreth, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, at the Foreign Ministry, on the occasion of his assumption of duties in the Kingdom. Gist as follows:

Both sides discussed possible dates for the Thai Prime Minister’s official visit to Malaysia. On ASEAN, Vice Minister Panich informed the Malaysian Ambassador that although the 14th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits were initially proposed by Thailand for mid-June, the proposed dates were inconvenient for some leaders. He said that the situation in Thailand had returned to normal and reiterated Thailand’s sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the postponement of the Summits. The Malaysian Ambassador expressed his understanding and Malaysia’s confidence in Thailand’s preparedness to host the Summits and its readiness to join the meetings.

Both sides also exchanged views on other issues, such as Malaysia’s support for Thailand in the OIC. In this regard, Vice Minister Panich is scheduled to take part in the 36th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM 36), to be held in Damascus at the end of May 2009, as Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister and head of the Thai delegation. He also reiterated that the Royal Thai Government gave priority to resolving the unrest in the southern border provinces through peaceful means.
