On 20 May 2009, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya presided over the opening ceremony of the exhibition and auction of art themed “Discovering MFA: Exotic Art, Aesthetic Thailand”, at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was well attended by the diplomatic corps, distinguished art enthusiasts, and media.
In his opening remark, Foreign Minister Kasit congratulated the Thai art scene and artists who had their works displayed in the exhibition. He emphasized the importance of public diplomacy, which is one of the Ministry’s priorities to further strengthen cordial relations between Thailand and foreign countries, particularly at the people-to-people level through Thai arts, tradition and culture.
The auction of ten works of art run by Christie’s (Thailand) received enthusiastic participation from the guests. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Thai Foundation’s public activities.
The art exhibition, “Discovering MFA: Exotic Art, Aesthetic Thailand” received the support from the Education Fund for Promotion of Art Creation under the “General Prem Tinsulanonda Statesman Foundation”, enabling Thai artists to show their potential and to raise their international profiles. More than a hundred works of art by 50 art masters including national, ASEAN, and Thailand’s leading artists such as Thawan Duchanee, Prayad Phongdam, Nonthvathn Chandhanaphalin are on display at the event.
