“Homecoming for Thai Youths from Sydney” Project

During 13-25 July 2009, Mr. Kiattikhun Chartprasert, Consul-General of Thailand to Sydney and officers from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney led a delegation of 50 Thai youths and their families from Sydney to Thailand under the project, “Homecoming for Thai Youths from Sydney”. On 16 July 2009, the youth delegation paid a courtesy call on Miss Chompoonute Nakornthap, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs at Buakaew Room, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation then took a tour of the Ministry and was briefed on the history of Thai diplomacy as well as participated in activities organized by Radio Saranrom at the Department of Information.

The “Homecoming for Thai Youths from Sydney” project was jointly initiated by the Thai Consulate-General in Sydney, agencies under the Team Thailand Sydney, and the Thai community in Sydney. The project is a part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ policy aiming to strengthen Thai communities abroad. The project sets out to create an opportunity for Thai youths from Sydney to have a first-hand experience of their Thai cultural root and to promote networking among the youths themselves as well as the parents, so as to enhance the youths’ potentials to be the young cultural ambassadors for Thailand in Australia and other parts of the world.
