On 17 July 2009 at the Bua Kaew Hall in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Miss Chomoonute Nakornthap, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs presided over an award ceremony for winners who participated in the students’ painting competition under the Ministry’s “Young Ambassador of Virtue” Project. Students from all regions over the country took part in the painting competition, which aims to promote the concept "Thailand and ASEAN". Following the award ceremony the winners had an opportunity to participate in a puppet workshop organized by the Joe Louis Thai Traditional Puppet Theater, under the royal patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana.
During the winners’ trip to Bangkok, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged for them educational visits to important sites including the Grand Palace and the National Discovery Museum Institute. The students will also attend an art camp in Nakhon Nayok province from 18 July to 19 July to learn from one of Thailand's international renowned artists, Mr. Sangkom Thongmee. The students will be able to develop their painting skills and utilize the new techniques they have acquired to improve their work.
The "Thailand and ASEAN" painting competition and the art camp have been organized this year to doubly commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Ministry’s "Young Ambassador of Virtue" project, as well as the occasion of Thailand’s ASEAN presidency. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes it is important to educate Thai youths about Thailand’s neighbouring countries and ASEAN as a whole, as well as to provide them with the opportunity to develop and improve their artistic skills.
