World News Monday July 20, 2009 13:41 —Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In late May 2009, the rains and storms of Cyclone Aila unleashed their fury on Bhutan, 12 lives were lost as their houses were destroyed. But much of the damage was left in public infrastructure, forcing the government of Bhutan to appeal to international aid and support including Thailand.

As a gesture of goodwill and a token of friendship, Thailand has decided to contribute USD 20,000 in humanitarian assistance as a helping hand to the unfortunate victims of Cylone Aila and for rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, which will be handed over to the Government of Bhutan through the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka.
