On 28 July 2009, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs met with representatives from the government and private sectors to discuss preparations for the upcoming ”road show” to India,to be led by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu, as well as preparation for a roundtable meeting to be led by Foreign Minister Kasit.
Foreign Minister Kasit noted that Thailand’s ‘Look West’ and India’s ‘Look East’ policies were complementary and that both sides were culturally close. The Heads of Government of the two countries have met on various occasions, such as at the G- 20 and the World Economic Forum in Davos. The road show in India would further enhance and promote trade and investment between the two countries. Both public and private sectors can also take this opportunity to share their views and discuss issues related to trade and investment, including taxation, trade regulations, and visas on arrival.
The Prime Minister is expected to lead the road show during the second or third week of November. Prior to that, Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak will lead a group of businessmen to India in the first week of September. Activities planned include exhibitions of Thai products, Thai cooking lessons, Thai massage demonstrations, and business matching between Thai and Indian businessmen. As part of the preparations, in mid-August Foreign Minister Kasit will host a roundtable meeting in Kolkata for exchanges of views on bilateral trade and investment issues with high-level Indian businessmen from Kolkata and nearby.
