Singapore Think Tank Chairman calls on FM Kasit

On 31 July 2009, Mr. Simon Tay, Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his visit to Thailand during 30 July - 1 August 2009.

Mr. Tay congratulated Thailand for successfully hosting the 42nd AMM/PMC and 16th ARF, which demonstrated ASEAN’s dynamism and close working relationship with such dialogue partners as the United States. Both sides also exchanged views on the roles of China and the US in Southeast Asia on such issues as economic cooperation and democratic development in Myanmar.

The Foreign Minister praised the contributions of the SIIA, as a well established think tank, to research on regional affairs, and pledged Thailand’s full support. On this occasion, Mr. Tay also extended a standing invitation to Foreign Minister Kasit to deliver a speech at the SIIA.
