On 17 August 2009, Mr. Alexander Feldman, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on the occasion of the former’s assumption of his position.

Mr. Feldman informed Foreign Minister Kasit that his meeting with the ASEAN Economic Ministers, during the 41st ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting in Bangkok, was very constructive and the USABC was now preparing for a road show in the US in 2010 for the ASEAN member countries to promote the region’s trade and investment potential. The two sides also discussed public relations plans for the Thai Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to the US during the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September.

Both sides also held talks on promotion of American investment and doing business in Thailand. Mr. Feldman raised issues of taxation and customs which were causing problems for American companies. The Thai side agreed to take up the matter with the relevant authorities.

The USABC is a business organization which plays an important role in promoting trade and investment relations between the US and the ASEAN region. The members of USABC are leading American companies, which have invested or are doing business in the ASEAN region.
