The 7th Thai Festival in Osaka

On 5-6 September 2009, the Royal Thai Consulate General together with the Thailand Board of Investment, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Trade Center and the Thai Students’ Association in Japan held the 7th Thai Festival at Tennoji Park in Osaka. On 5 September, Mr. Supote Isarankura na Ayudhaya, Consul General, presided over the opening ceremony of the Festival which was also attended by Mr. Kunio Hiramatsu, Mayor of Osaka City, Mr. Shinsaku Kimura, Vice Governor of Osaka Prefecture, and distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps based in Osaka.

The Festival was filled with booths selling Thai food, booths selling Thai food and drink products, “Sawasdee Thailand” booth introducing Thailand and displaying Thai-Japanese relations, and Suan Dusit Rajabhat University’s booth demonstrating Thai handicrafts and Thai dessert cooking. The Festival also showcased various Thai cultural performances such as Thai traditional dances by the Southern Breeze dance troupe, Thai pop music concert by Thai artists, Thai boxing demonstration by Thai boxing gyms in Japan, and Thai hoop takraw demonstration by the Thai national team. The two-day event attracted around 100,000 Japanese from Osaka and its vicinity.
