Essay Contest under the theme of “The Future of Human Rights in Thailand”

In commemoration of the International Year of Human Rights Learning of the United Nations, the United Nations Association of Thailand is holding an essay contest in Thai under the theme of “The Future of Human Rights in Thailand.” The objective is to encourage high school students and university undergraduates to research and learn more about the fundamental principles of human rights as well as existing mechanisms under the UN and other multilateral frameworks and to provide an opportunity for them to express their views and visions about how to protect and promote human rights in Thailand.

The contest is divided into two categories. Participants are required to submit an essay in Thai, up to four pages for high school students and up to six pages for undergraduates, along with their name, age, educational institution, address and telephone number to the United Nations Association of Thailand, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Ayudhya Road, Bangkok 10400 before 9 October 2009. The names of winners will be posted on the said website on 16 October 2009 and the award ceremony will be held at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok, on 26 October 2009. First prize winners will each receive 10,000 baht in cash whereas the two runner ups from each category will each receive 5,000 baht in cash. Winning essays will also be published in the newsletter of the Association.
