US Deputy Attorney General discusses cooperation on justice and anti-trust law with Vice Foreign Minister Panich

On 13 October 2009, Vice Foreign Minister Panich Vikitsreth met with Mr. David Ogden, US Deputy Attorney General, who is on a visit to Thailand to strengthen bilateral relations on justice affairs and law enforcement between the two countries at the Foreign Ministry.

VFM Panich welcomed DAG Ogden on behalf of Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya. DAG Ogden thanked the VFM and expressed his satisfaction with the two countries’ cooperative spirit in the area of justice, including training of prosecutors and law enforcers and cooperation on extradition.

VFM Panich informed DAG Ogden of H.R.H. Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s planned visit to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Headquarter and the visit to the US of the Thai Minister of Justice in November 2009. DAG Ogden responded that the US and the FBI were pleased with the opportunity to welcome them.

Both sides also exchanged views on various issues, such as the engagement of Myanmar in the operation of International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), Thailand’s participation in the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Doha, Qatar, as well as anti-trust law of aviation. The US side agreed with Thailand’s proposal for the two countries to have a dialogue on anti-trust law to raise awareness among the Thai authorities concerned and will convey the matter to the US Anti-trust Division.
