Foreign Minister gives a lecture to participants of the National Defence College, Class of 2009

On 13 October 2009, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave a lecture to and exchanges views with participants of the National Defence College, Class of 2009, on “Roles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security” at the Foreign Ministry. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Permanent Secretary, and Mrs. Jittriya Pinthong, Deputy Permanent Secretary, also participated in the event.

The Foreign Minister gave an overview on roles, responsibilities and relationship between the Foreign Ministry, foreign policy and national security. He emphasized the development of relationships between Thailand and its neighbouring countries, the promotion of cooperation for the strengthening of ASEAN in Thailand’s capacity as the current Chair of ASEAN, and the establishment of ASEAN Communities in accordance with the ASEAN Charter. He also stressed the importance of close cooperation between Thailand and Muslim countries and international Muslim organizations, and the deepening of cooperation and strategic partnerships between Thailand, major countries and trading partners in other regions.

After the lecture, the Foreign Minister, Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretary and participants of the National Defence College, Class of 2009, enjoyed further discussion on various dimensions of the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which helped enhance better understanding concerning the national security and defence in relation with the foreign affairs.
