World News Tuesday November 10, 2009 15:00 —Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On the first day, he will join other ministers for a working breakfast for a free flowing discussion on key challenges facing the region and how to address them together.

This will be followed by two ministerial Retreat sessions. Retreat 1 will address prospects for the WTO Doha Round and preparations for the 7th WTO Ministerial Conference at the end of the month in Geneva. In the context of accelerating regional economic integration, ministers will also allude to a possible FTA of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP). Retreat 2 will address fostering inclusive and sustainable growth. This topic recognizes that based on lessons learnt from the current financial and economic crisis, a post-crisis economic growth model must not only be more inclusive of broader society and reflective of the international community, but it must also be economically and environmentally sustainable in the longer term.

During the day, Foreign Minister Kasit is also expected to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Australia and the United States of America.

The first day will conclude with the AMM Dinner.

On 12 November 2009, the Foreign Minister will attend the AMM Plenary session. In addition to issues covered during the ministerial Retreat, the draft agenda will include items of particular interest to Thailand such as assessment of APEC developed member economies’ achievement of the Bogor Goal of free and open trade and investment by 2010, progress and future direction of Economic and Technical Cooperation (ECOTECH) and human security, both of which are essential complements to APEC’s trade and investment agenda.

During the second day of the 21st AMM, the Foreign Minister is expected to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Canada, Colombia and Papua New Guinea.
