On 23 November 2009, Mr. Hong Lihe, Deputy Governor of Jiangxi Province, People’s Republic of China, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya at the Foreign Ministry on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to tighten economic, trade and investment relations with Thailand.

Deputy Governor Hong, who is leading a delegation comprising both public and private sectors to Thailand from 24-26 November 2009, gave an interesting overview on Jiangxi province and pointed out four resemblances and linkages between Thailand and Jiangxi. First, both are important sources of agriculture. Second, both are blessed with pristine tourist attractions. Third, both have enjoyed long history of goods exchanging. Fourth, both are rich in natural resources. Ores, in particular, can be an important area of cooperation between Jiangxi and Thailand. Agreeing with Deputy Government Hong’s assessments, FM Kasit added that Banpu has already established a coal mine industry in China. The Jiangxi Deputy Governor took the opportunity to invite FM Kasit to visit Jiangxi especially during the Central China Expo, hosted by the province next year. The Foreign Minister accepted the invitation in principle, adding that, if possible, he also planned to visit the Thai Embassy in Beijing as well as at least half of the eight Thai Consulates-General in China.
