World News Tuesday December 1, 2009 15:46 —Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On 30 November 2009, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, presided over the launching ceremony of the website www.thaiafrica.net at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony was well attended by Ambassadors and diplomatic corps of African countries to Thailand as well as representatives from the public and private sectors.

In his opening remarks, Foreign Minister Kasit emphasizes the importance of the website in connecting the missing links between Thailand and the African continent. The website reflects the current administration’s intention in forging close and cordial relationships with African countries. Apart from Thailand’s recent physical presence in Africa such as the opening of the Royal Thai Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, in 2009 and the upcoming Thai military personnel’s participation in the UN Peacekeeping Operation in Darfur, Sudan, early next year, which is another expanding role of Thailand in Africa, the further strengthening of trade, investment, tourism, cultural, technical and academic cooperation between the two sides will certainly drive the Thai-African links forward.

The launching ceremony was followed by website introduction and presentation, panel discussion under the topic “Thailand-Africa: Discover the Missing Link” attended by Ambassadors from the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Kenya, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of South Africa and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Q&A session opened to the interested public.
