On 21 December 2009, Mr. Samak Sampaorat, Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Maolidinnabawi Celebration of Thailand, led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to report on preparations for the annual Maolidinnabawi Celebration of Thailand, to be held during 26-28 December 2009 in commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad.
Mr. Saman Ngamkhanong, Secretary of the Organising Committee, reported that the Maolidinnabawi Celebration is an annual Islamic event that is central to the Muslim society. The highlighted activities for this year are the Al-Quran reciter competition to select Thai representatives for the international competition, which has always been supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the exhibitions on the halal food industry and Muslim culture from different regions of Thailand.
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit presented a cheque in the amount of 200,000 Baht to support the organising of the Celebration.
