On 7 January 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya met with representatives of foreign chambers of commerce at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange views on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s participation in the 40th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to be held in Davos, Switzerland, at the end of this month.

Foreign Minister Kasit briefed the representatives of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), British Chamber of Commerce, German Chamber of Commerce, Indian Chamber of Commerce, Swiss Chamber of Commerce, and the US Chamber of Commerce, on the Prime Minister’s tentative programme during the upcoming WEF Meeting in Davos. They also exchanged views on issues to be discussed during the Meeting and explored possibility of arranging bilateral talks between Prime Minister Abhisit and the CEOs of major companies/enterprises who are members of foreign chambers of commerce in Davos.

Foreign Minister Kasit invited the CEOs of major companies/enterprises to participate in “Thailand Roundtable 2010” to be held in Bangkok prior to the “WEF on East Asia” in Hanoi, Vietnam, in June 2010. He reiterated the Royal Thai Government’s determination to coordinate with private sector in setting direction of Thailand’s economic policies as well as its adherence to the rule of law and good governance.

The representatives of the foreign chambers of commerce expressed their appreciation to the Thai Foreign Ministry in organizing this meeting. They viewed that Thailand needs to show the international community its competitiveness, political and economic stability, and good governance. On this occasion, the representative of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) proposed that the Royal Thai Government should support the textile industry using green technology and warned that the climate change issue might be used as a new non-tariff barrier.
