On 15 January 2010 Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs calls on Mr. Katsuya Okada, Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to discuss bilateral issues during his visit to Japan to participate in the 4th Forum for East Asia - Latin American Cooperation (FEALAC) Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo during 16 — 17 January 2010.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Kasit informed Mr. Okada of 3 factors contributing to the stability of the Royal Thai Government i.e. Government administration based on good governance and rules of law, progress in augmenting competitiveness and reducing social gap through Government’s stimulus packages 1 and 2 , and Government ‘s firm commitment to promote businesses of both Thai and foreign investors as well as to resolve the environment and health related problems involving 67 projects at Mabtaput.
Regarding the development of Mekong sub-region, Mr. Kasit affirmed Thailand’s position to partner with Japan in doing so with the emphasis on bridging the missing links of the infrastructures in the area which would supplement East West Economic Corridor (EWEC).
Foreign Minister Okada expressed concern about problem at Mabtaput and urged the Thai Government solve it as soon as possible in order to avoid various effects.
Both sides also exchanged views on issues of international concern such as political situation in Myanmar, climate change and nuclear weapon reduction.
On the same day, Foreign Minister Kasit met with a group of Japanese experts on Thai studies, leading Japanese media and members of Japan-Thailand business forum to exchange views on Thailand-Japan relations and political situation in Thailand.
