Thailand and Argentina to co-chair 2nd ASEAN-MERCOSUR Ministerial Meeting

Foreign Minister Kasit briefed his Argentine counterpart on Thailand’s current political situation, Thai Government’s determination to run the country based on rules of law, transparency and good governance, as well as Thailand’s economic policy implementation through Government’s stimulus packages. He also proposed that both sides increase people-to-people contacts to learn more about each other through more convenient air linkages and exchange of academicians interested in either side’s region.

In addition, Foreign Minister Kasit extended invitation to Argentina who is presently pro-tempore MERCOSUR President to co-chair the 2nd ASEAN-MERCOSUR Ministerial Meeting to be held in June 2010 in Bangkok. The Argentine Foreign Minister agreed to work closely with Thailand to set the agenda of the meeting and propose that Thailand-Argentina bilateral meeting be arranged during that period to follow up on both sides’ cooperation in various fields.
