Closer Cooperation on Foreign Affairs between Foreign Ministry and Government Agencies

On 22 January 2010, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the consultation meeting with Deputy Permanent Secretaries responsible for foreign affairs and representatives from 19 government agencies to exchange views on the foreign policy and other related issues at the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting was held to enhance networking as well as effective and efficient coordination amongst the same working-level foreign affairs officials of various governmental agencies. Foreign Minister Kasit mentioned about diplomacy which has currently been operated in diverse dimensions, be they cultural, environmental, health, and human security and that each country was seeking international cooperation to better cope with new transnational challenges. He emphasized the importance of public understanding on foreign affairs which the Foreign Ministry has been actively promoting the “public diplomacy” activities through its 12 passport offices, and the “Roving Bua Kaew Project” held in different regions of Thailand. Foreign Minister Kasit also invited interested agencies to join the Roving Bua Kaew Project and sought their cooperation in issues such as ASEAN’s connectivity, civil society, southern border provinces, and protection of Thai nationals overseas. He reiterated that the Thai Ambassadors are obliged to coordinate with other Thai agencies to promote the national interest and therefore encouraged other government agencies to make use of this channel for the best of the national interest.

On this occasion, several participants requested for the Foreign Ministry’s cooperation and support on their work in the area of foreign affairs, while some of them expressed their interest in joining the Foreign Ministry’s Roving Bua Kaew Project.
