Foreign Minister gives well-wishes to Thai advance team to Haiti

On 27 January 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya met with the advance team of Thailand, comprising 2 representatives from the Ministry of Defense, 1 representative from the Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand, and 2 officials from the Foreign Ministry, who will be traveling to Haiti to explore ways and means to provide humanitarian assistance to the country following the massive earthquake, at the Foreign Ministry.

The advance team is scheduled to depart Bangkok on 29 January 2010 to Mexico City, where they will join with the Minister Councellor and a local staff of the Royal Thai Embassy there. The group will then travel together to Haiti to carry out their mission as follows:

1. Meet and help Thai nationals in Haiti.

2. Coordinate with the Mexican Government on delivery of Thailand’s contribution in amount of USD 100,000, some of which was already used to procure urgent medical supplies and necessities to assist the Haitians.

3. Observe the Mexican medical team’s task and evaluate medical assistance Haiti needs in order to prepare for the future operation of Thai medical team.

4. Estimate Haiti’s demand for assistance in restoration and reconstruction.
