Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) to visit Thailand

Dr. Abdullaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), a specialized international organization of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), is scheduled to visit Thailand between 1-5 February 2009 at the invitation of the Minister of Education.The visit is part of the Royal Thai Embassy in Rabat’s initiative to strengthen collaboration between Thailand and the Islamic world in the fields of education, science and culture.

During the visit, Dr. Altwaijri will pay courtesy calls on H.E. Mr. Chinnaworn Boonyakiat, Minister of Education and H.E. Mr. Teera Slukpetch, Minister of Culture, as well as meet with high ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He will also pay a visit to the Southern Border Provinces to meet with Mr. Panu Uthairat, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and Director of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SPBAC), to explore ways and means of further enhancing mutual cooperation. In addition, Dr. Altwaijri will visit local education institutions and meet with communities and religious leaders in the area.

The ISESCO was established in 1982 by the OIC, with headquarters in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco. Since its inception, the Organization has been playing a key role in strengthening and consolidating cooperation among OIC member states as well with countries outside the Islamic world in the fields of education, sciences and culture. The ISESCO also promotes activities and initiatives aimed at advancing inter-faith and intercultural relations.

Thailand has been participating in various activities of the ISESCO since 2007 as an Observer Member, with a view to enhancing cooperation and understanding between Thailand and Muslim communities around the world.
