In response to queries on the recent media reports disclosing the content of Thailand’s Report to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the inspection and seizure by the Thai authorities of an air cargo from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 11 December 2009 at Don Mueang Airport, Ms. Vimon Kidchob, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states the following:

1. Thailand acted in full compliance with UNSC Resolution 1874 (2009) regarding the arms sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. On 11 December 2009, Thai authorities searched the plane and seized the weapons. Then, on 28 December 2009, the Royal Thai Government submitted a report on the inspection and seizure by the Thai authorities of an air cargo from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the UNSC Committee established pursuant to resolution 1718 (2006).

2. The said Report is confidential and the Thai authorities have never disclosed its contents to the public. Since the UN is now conducting an investigation, the Thai Government has no comments at this stage.

3. It must be stressed that the Report does not make any allegations regarding any country as the destination of the weapons. The Report merely states the details of the weapons and documents found on the airplane. The matter is now under investigation by the UNSC Committee established pursuant to resolution 1718 (2006).
